Ever since the first EF lens rolled off the production line in 1987, Canon has been at the forefront of lens innovation and development. In the late 2000s, adoption of interchangeable lens cameras was at its peak, helped by the introduction of the EOS 300D (Rebel) camera in 2003 – the first sub-£1000 digital SLR to be introduced for the enthusiast market.

Now, in 2021 Canon has just announced that the 150 millionth lens has been manufactured. Over the years, Canon has also celebrated its lens technology world firsts that have been achieved along the way.

The Canon EOS system continues to evolve and expand, with a new lens mount – the RF for the EOS R-series – announced in 2018 and which opens up new possibilities in terms of lens designs.
